The design of this holiday home in the Benguela Cove Estate on the Kleinmond Lagoon  sought to maximise mountain views across the lagoon, but also create wind-sheltered outdoor spaces. The plan uses the form of the traditional Overberg barn to create a “farm compound” of humanly scaled spaces with a sheltered internal courtyard. To capture specific views the window and door openings were maximised, but without fragmenting the “wall” architecture of the barn and emphasising the mass of the walls. Detailing and finishes were kept simple, providing a pared down background for relaxed living.
